To 1846 Private J.JOHNSTONE, 92nd.Highlanders (Gordon Highlanders) : Correct style of impressed naming : (JAMES JOHNSTONE (shown on Service Papers as JAMES JOHNSTON) - Born at Glasgow, Lanarkshire around 1841 and enlisted into 42nd.Regiment (Black Watch) at Ayr on 1 August 1859: Transferred to 92nd.Highlanders on 1 November 1867 and served in East Indies and Afghanistan including the Second Afghan War of 1878-80: Slightly wounded at Kabul on 13 December 1879 - gunshot abrasure: Discharged 15 March 1881, on termination of second period of limited engagement.
